In Your garden somewhere there is some kind of septic system. This could be a holding tank that needs to be regularly pumped out by a large unpleasant smelling truck and taken to a magical place where some one else deals with it. If You haven't had that done lately, then you probably have the system that passes through your septic and goes to a different chamber that leaches your waste out into the soil beneath your garden, maybe towards your well or that little babbling brook. Out of sight is out of mind after all.
We live in a densely populated area with no central sewer system. A large percentage of us, maybe without thought at all, put our waste directly into the ground. Most of us supply our houses with bore water from that same ground. Lots of people around you are doing the same thing as blissfully as you!
Get a feel for where I am going or maybe a whiff of reality? It is not a rare occurrence for these two to meet and mix. When they do, unpleasant things happen, sometimes very nasty things.
When was the last time you bathed a wound in the shower and watched it become re-infected? Watched your child bathe and play blissfully occasionally blowing bubbles in the bath? Ever had Bali Belly or Diarrhea? Has your child? What about typhoid or typhoid related diseases? They are becoming very popular in the rainy season when the water table rises.
Whether it is the litter lined roads where the smoke continuously rises from smoldering piles of refuse filled plastic bags or that awful smell of the ''rivers'' which meander their way to the beaches. Maybe the suspended hazy mixture of waste and sewerage that drifts in the current around the reefs, slowly settling and smothering the coral.....do you care?
